I Needed to Make Sure That I Was Ready to Work on My Own

For quite some time, I thought about going into business for myself. I had worked for other people for a long time, and I felt that I had learned enough about my craft to not need to be under someone else’s authority. I had to do my research first. For example, I needed to make sure that I could find all the powertool parts in Canada that I would need so that I would not need to order from other countries. If I found that I needed to go to sources elsewhere, that could really eat into my profit and cause me to not stay in business. I really wanted to succeed, so making sure that I could find everything I needed locally has been instrumental. I decided that it would be a good idea to break out on my own.

I have been working since I was 14 years old. You could say that I love to work. I know that a lot of people grumble about having to go to work each day, but that has never been me. I’m pretty lucky in that regard. I’ve just never had a job that I dislike. I have had a few bosses that were hard to get along with, and there have even been some coworkers that I haven’t been a big fan of, but these types of things have been pretty rare for me.

I was a little nervous about doing things without anyone else’s help. But I have gained a lot of skills over the years, so I felt that I was ready. I also knew that I would need to hire an employee early on, so I ended up hiring my nephew. He has been a great worker and he’s helping me get to where I want to be.
